Send and Receive Softflare emails on my iphone

iphonePlease follow these instructions for setting up your Softflare email account on your iphone. Note that if you're on iOS 4, this may be slightly different. If you're not sure what to do, please print this page out and give it to your local Apple Shop support staff who will be able to help.

In spite of what anybody tells you, please note that, if asked, you should NOT use SSL.

The settings you will need to have to hand are:

  • Incoming mail server (pop3) : mail.yourdomain.co.uk
  • Outgoing mail server : mail.yourdomain.co.uk
  • User name for email : john@yourdomain.co.uk (your email address)
  • Password : *******

To set up the iPhone to pick up mail, you need to go through the following steps on the iPhone:

  1. Go to settings on the main menu of the iphone
  2. Go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars (you'll need to scroll down)
  3. Go to Add Account
  4. Go to Other
  5. For your name, type your full name (not your email address)
  6. For the address, type your email address,e.g. john@yourdomain.co.uk
  7. Where it says Password, enter your password
  8. Press Save at the top
  9. After a few seconds, the screen should change... click on POP at the top of the screen
  10. Under Incoming mail server fill in the following:
    • Host name: e.g. mail.yourdomain.co.uk
    • User name: e.g. john@yourdomain.co.uk
    • Password: leave as is, it's already set
  11. Under Outgoing mail server fill in the following:
    • Ensure Host name, User name and Password are set as above
  12. Click Save
  13. IMPORTANT: If  you get a message "secure connection failed. The certificate may not be valid" just click Cancel
  14. Now click Save again - you will then get a message saying that you may not be able to send or receive - just ignore that and click Save once more

That's all there is to it.
