Has my domain name expired?

It is Softflare’s standard practice to send an e-mail request to you prior to your domain name being renewed by us.  You will receive this request 6-8 weeks prior to the domain name expiry date and it will be in e-mail form, unless you have previously specified otherwise to us.

It is therefore absolutely IMPERATIVE that you keep us informed of any changes in your contact e-mail address that we hold on file for you.

Our policy on domain name renewals is as follows:

  • If you reply to this e-mail to say that you wish to have your domain name(s) renewed then you will, shortly afterwards, receive an invoice for the domain name renewal.

  • If you reply to this e-mail to say that you DO NOT wish to have your domain name(s) renewed, then the name(s) is/are not renewed* and will be allowed to lapse.

  • If, in spite of our best attempts to elicit a response, we hear nothing, then the name(s) is/are not renewed* and will be allowed to lapse.

If you have received a renewal invoice for your domain name(s), then it is an invoice you cannot afford to ignore and MUST BE PAID before the expiry date of your domain name.  If this domain name renewal invoice is not paid before the expiry of that domain name,  then the name(s) is/are not renewed* and will be allowed to lapse.

This policy is specifically designed to safeguard your name and ensure that you are only invoiced for domain names that you wish to retain, and it protects us by ensuring we only re-register domain names that our clients have specifically requested us to re-register. The only people who will suffer through this policy are customers who ignore invoice requests.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DOMAIN NAMES ARE NOT RENEWED WITHOUT PRIOR PAYMENT AND THAT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT CLEARED FUNDS REACH US BEFORE THE EXPIRY DATE IF YOU WISH TO KEEP YOUR DOMAIN NAME.

* the name has not been renewed means that you lose your rights to use that particular domain name.  Should the name lapse due to non-payment of the renewal fees in advance of the expiry date, any services linked to it such as e-mail or hosting of a website may be affected or cease to function completely.  Your contacts, clients or work collegues who write to e-mail addresses on that domain name may have their e-mails bounced back with messages saying "domain name not recognised".

You should also be aware that domain names that expire will be available for registration by other parties and may be immediately deleted by the registry.  This means that ANYBODY can secure those names, including your competitors or ex-employees and any website and/or e-mail that you had on that account will be lost.

For customers who have a .eu domain name:

Specific rules apply to .eu domain names and so if you do not respond to your domain name renewal request or pay your domain name renewal invoice prior to the expiry date of your .eu domain name, there are especially severe consequences which are imposed by the registry and not by Softflare Limited.
As soon as the .eu domain name expires it goes into the Redemption Grace Period.  There are two stages of Redemption. After your domains expire, they may have the status of Extended Redemption Grace Period (ERGP), or Redemption Grace Period (RGP). Currently, redemption fees are almost ten times that of the renewal fee and are not discountable. This is in addition to the domain renewal fee.  Prices may change at any time without notice.

ERGP domains may remain in the system for up to 90 days.  After the 90-day ERGP lapses, the original registrant has relinquished all rights and use of the domain name. The name will be deleted from the system, and the previous registrant data will be removed from the whois. The registry may auction, delete or dispose of the name as they see fit.  You will not have an opportunty to recover the domain once the 90-day ERGP timeframe has lapsed.

We encourage you to renew your domain names well in advance of expiration to avoid disappointment and disruption to your current services and to your business.

PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE A SOFTFLARE DOMAIN INVOICE. IT IS NOT A 14, 30 OR 60 DAY INVOICE. IT MUST BE PAID IMMEDIATELY IF YOU WISH TO SAFEGUARD YOUR BUSINESS INTERESTS

If you have any doubts as to the status of your domain name with Softflare Limited, please do not hesitate to contact us by e-mail to support@softflare.com
